Suggested days out from Glasgow and Edinburgh by train
Brought to the forefront of local attractions by its role in The DaVinci Code, the chapel is well worth a visit. Dating from 1446, the chapel is currently undergoing major renovation, which has necessitated building a large, temporary overall roof to shelter the delicate stonework from the elements.
But the exquisite interior and the amazing history and legend surrounding the chapel make it a must. There’s no nearby rail station, but buses run from Central Edinburgh every hour, though weekend service is restricted. There are day bus tours from Edinburgh which include the chapel.
